His personal clinical cases are among the widest in Europe, with more than 7,000 patients operated over the past 15 years. His contribution to clinical and research activities has been critical to the innovations developed at IEO in the care of breast cancer, representing the most important advances in breast oncology on an international level. He has worked for the improvement of conservative surgery techniques for breast cancer and the development of the sentinel lymph node technique and intraoperative radiotherapy as a complement to conservative surgery. Other major research fields, in collaboration with the Department of Oncology of Medical Senology, concern the experimentation of preoperative drug therapies, with the aim of further increasing the proportion of patients who are candidates for conservative surgery. For patients requiring mastectomy, the close collaboration with the Plastic Surgery Division has enabled the development of "conservative" mastectomy, which preserves the aesthetic appearance of the breast while providing complete removal of the glandular tissue.
